The 'Tian Qing' maintenance robot for ultra-high-voltage power lines successfully completed a precision task in Shanghai on Thursday.
Operating on a live 1000-kV line, it resolved a potential hazard in 20 minutes by inserting a tiny pin with accuracy.
Developed by a team led by National Model Worker He Bing, 'Tianqing' is equipped with lidar, depth cameras, and an AI system for accurate hazard identification and repair.
The An-Tang Line is a critical power corridor for Shanghai, capable of supplying electricity to millions of households.
The missing pin, if left unaddressed, could have led to a serious grid incident.
Unlike risky manual work, the robot was transported via drone to the cable, then moved autonomously to the fault point, performing millimeter-level operations steadily even in strong winds.
‘Tianqing’ previously garnered significant attention at the 2025 World Artificial Intelligence Conference.
