Mombasa SGR MGR LINK PROJECT IS ALMOST HERE

The Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) is finalizing the #MombasaSGR–#CBDLinkLine, a 26-kilometre connection between the #SGRTerminus at #Miritini and the #MombasaCBD, aimed at solving last-mile transport gaps. Currently, passengers rely on road transfers, but the new rail link will offer #SeamlessConnectivity between #SGR and #MetreGaugeRailway (#MGR) systems, enhancing #UrbanMobility and reducing #TrafficCongestion.
Launched in September 2022, the #KSh4.2BillionProject includes the #RehabilitationOfMombasaCentralStation, construction of #MiniStations at #ChangamweEast, #ChangamweWest, #Miritini, and #Shimanzi, a #480MeterRailwayBridge over the #MakupaCauseway, a #PedestrianOverpass, and a #LocomotiveTurntable to support rail handling.
Despite initial delays due to #LandAcquisitionChallenges, the government allocated #KSh1.1Billion to the #NationalLandCommission, clearing the way for uninterrupted work. The project aligns with the national #MassRapidTransit (#MRT) strategy and supports #MultimodalTransportIntegration, complementing the growing #BusRapidTransit (#BRT) system.
Expected benefits include #ShorterTravelTimes, enhanced #PublicTransportEfficiency, improved #UrbanConnectivity, and strengthened logistics around the #PortOfMombasa. The project also underlines Kenya’s move toward #SustainableTransport, #SmartCities, and #IntegratedInfrastructureDevelopment.
As completion nears, the Mombasa SGR–CBD link stands out as a strategic upgrade in Kenya’s #TransportInfrastructure, offering a scalable model for other cities across #EastAfrica.
