Pensacola, Florida was founded on September 15, 1559 when a fleet of eleven ships carrying fifteen-hundred Spanish settlers arrived in Pensacola Bay. A month later, hundreds were killed and six of their ships sunk by a hurricane. The settlement was abandoned but like the Phoenix it rose again eventually becoming a vibrant city on Florida's Gulf Coast. It's the western most city in the state's panhandle. Pensacola is home to Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola. The Navy's precision flying team "The Blue Angels" is based here. The Naval Air Museum reopened to the public on May 17, 2023 after being closed to non military visitors for three years. Pensacola also has one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
