A few moments from the concert ”Anatolian Tales”, performed 2025 January at the concert hall of House of Music Hungary.
Vocals: Veronika Varga (HU)
Kanoun: Sofia Labropoulou (GR)
Percussion: Tomi Smuk (HU)
Smyrna, a vibrant and diverse center of the Anatolian Greeks’ peaceful and flourishing microcosm until the first third of the 20th century, remains to this day one of the key symbols of Greek cultural memory and identity. Through songs and true stories written in the 1920s and 1930s — and by evoking the memories of real people — we embarked on a journey through time, guided by the voice and storytelling of Veronika Varga.
To follow in the authentic footsteps of Asia Minor’s Greek cultural heritage, the songs featured in the performance are accompanied by the iconic instruments of Anatolian people: Sofia Labropoulou, a renowned virtuoso of the kanun — an instrument that embodies the soul of the Middle East and the Mediterranean — and Tamás Smuk, a distinguished Hungarian master of Eastern percussion, join Veronika Varga on stage.
