Chancellor Rachel Reeves will deliver her Budget at 12:30 GMT, saying she will make “fair and necessary” decisions.
Labour has pledged not to raise income tax, National Insurance or VAT for “working people,” but may extend the freeze on income tax thresholds to 2030, pulling more people into higher tax bands. Other possible measures include higher taxes on homes over £2m, electric vehicles and pension contributions, and she may scrap the two-child benefit cap.
The government has already confirmed a higher minimum wage and an expanded sugar tax that will include milkshakes from 2028.
