Operation Drake
In 1978 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Sir Francis Drake’s circumnavigation of the world, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales suggested that the Scientific Exploration Society launch a major global expedition for young men and women of many nations to carry out community aid and scientific tasks whilst developing leadership skills.
Over 57,000 volunteered and 414 were selected for the venture led by LtCol John Blashford-Snell. Shot by Alan Bibby and expedition members, the film was produced by Survival International and is shown with kind permission of ITV Ltd.
