Syfovre is used to treat geographic atrophy, an advanced form of macular degeneration, to help preserve vision by slowing vision loss and, therefore, blindness. It was FDA approved in 2023.

Syfovre is given as an injection into the eye by a trained healthcare professional every 25 to 60 days.

This medication is known as a complement inhibitor. It blocks a protein in the immune system called C3. This decreases activity of a part of the immune system called the complement system, and slows damage to retinal cells in the eye.

Like all medications, Syfovre can cause side effects. Common side effects may include eye pain, irritation, or feeling like something is in your eye, an eye condition called neovascular age-related macular degeneration, seeing flashes of light or "floaters" in your vision, and bleeding in the white part of the eye.
