Why Are Chili Dogs Sonic's Favorite Food?

Why does Sonic the Hedgehog love chili dogs so much? Who came up with this idea? Regardless, in almost every version of Sonic media you can see Sonic eating chili dogs so I wanted to dive further into this and see where this came from. Also as a fun project for the New Year, why not make a chili dog of my own.
