This is the first prelude to open up Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier Book I, which was published in 1722. He composed a prelude and fugue for each key of the twelve-tone scale, each in the major key followed by the parallel minor key going up chromatically. Chopin was inspired by him to make his 24 preludes running down the circle of fifths, with each major key followed by the relative minor key.
The prelude consists of broken chords that modulate from C major to G major, and back to C major, followed by further modulations and a prolonged resolve (with G as the root note) for four measures to the home key. This includes the additional C minor chord inversion on G, courtesy of Christian Friedrich Gottlieb Schwencke, between measures 22 and 23.
Piano: Daniel Gregory, Garritian CFX Lite
