One of Vancouver Island’s most enduring ghost stories centers on Doris Gravlin, whose tragic death in 1936 at the Victoria Golf Club has haunted locals ever since. After separating from her husband Victor Gravlin, Doris agreed to meet him near the club on the evening of September 22; shortly after, her body was found near the course’s seventh fairway, while Victor’s remains washed ashore weeks later.

The apparition dubbed the “April Ghost” is said to appear in different forms — sometimes as a woman in a brown suit seen walking the fairways during twilight, other times as a misty white figure gliding along seaside bunkers.
