In this video, I want to present five critical reasons why young Nigerians/Africans should not follow the path of revolution.
People who don’t read history will definitely repeat it
10 of the most popular and historically significant revolutions, with their dates:
1. English Revolution (English Civil War) – 1642–1651
2. American Revolution – 1775–1783
3. French Revolution – 1789–1799
4. Haitian Revolution – 1791–1804
5. Latin American Wars of Independence – 1808–1825
6. Revolutions of 1848 (Europe’s “Springtime of Nations”) – 1848
7. Russian Revolution – 1917
8. Chinese Communist Revolution – 1927–1949
9. Cuban Revolution – 1953–1959
10. Iranian Revolution – 1978–1979
These revolutions are “popular” in the sense that they are historically impactful, widely studied, and often referenced as turning points in global history.
1. Violence Destroys, It Doesn’t Build
2. Revolutions Without Economic Foundations Collapse
3. Replacing Elites Doesn’t Guarantee Change
4. Lost Generations and Brain Drain
5. Ideology Without Practical Skills Is Dangerous
Bottom line: Nepal’s youth-driven insurgency is a warning, not a model. African youths should avoid romanticizing revolution and instead focus on building productive skills, businesses, and institutions that can secure Africa’s long-term prosperity.
Instead of falling into destructive revolutionary paths, here are five concrete things young Nigerians and Africans should do to move their countries forward:
1. Master Skills for Industrialization and Technology
• Focus on STEM, skilled trades, and digital skills that drive productivity.
• Learn carpentry, plumbing, welding, coding, and renewable energy systems — skills that create jobs and industries.
• Industrialization is how countries move up from poverty to prosperity.
2. Build Scalable Businesses, Not Just Hustles
• Many African youths are self-employed, but in survival-mode “hustles.”
• Shift to formal businesses with growth potential, using partnerships, investment, and innovation.
• Example: Instead of selling farm produce alone, start processing, packaging, and branding it for wider markets.
3. Engage in Civic Accountability, Not Violent Politics
• Instead of copying armed revolutions, organize for transparency: demand fair budgeting, track public spending, and use tech to expose corruption.
• Join or form civic groups that push for accountability in schools, hospitals, and local governments.
• Peaceful civic activism builds institutions; violent struggle destroys them.
4. Leverage Global Networks While Building Locally
• Use the internet to connect with mentors, investors, and knowledge networks across the world.
• But instead of fleeing permanently, apply the learning to solve African problems (agribusiness, logistics, fintech, health tech).
• Smart migration: learn abroad, build at home.
5. Promote a Culture of Productivity, Not Victimhood
• Stop blaming colonialism or the West as excuses for underdevelopment.
• Build a culture where work, innovation, and merit are celebrated.
• Encourage peers to read biographies of industrialists, inventors, and reformers — not just politicians.
Bottom line: Young Africans should build skills, businesses, accountability, networks, and productivity culture. That is how they can lift their countries forward — not through copying failed revolutions like in Nepal.
