Claire wants to take over the apartment upstairs, where Alain is renting, to make a duplex, because she's getting married to André soon. But Alain categorically refuses to leave his apartment. When Alain's daughter, Aurélie, tells him that her mother, Odile, is getting remarried to Rémi, his best friend and dentist, he wants to go to the wedding. So Alain offers Claire a deal: if she agrees to accompany him, pretending to be his fiancée, he'll leave the apartment. She accepts. During the reception, Claire gets drunk, falls ill, and slaps Alain while they're kissing. Upon her return, she argues with André. He has Alain evicted by bailiffs before the end of the period agreed upon in the settlement. But this displeases Claire...
