Buck gets his revenge.
Just so we’re clear here. I was raised in the country. My neighbors had a pet deer when I was growing up. I am a bow hunter. I am a successful bow hunter. This is how I feed my family.
In this video I was out in the wood searching for a buck I had shot with a bow the previous evening. I had tracked him after the shot and jumped him already once. I let him go overnight, I never expected to find him still alive. I put what I thought was a very good kill shot on him and was very surprised he had not died immediately. However the angle of the shot proved to be off and it only caught one lung. This deer is not sick, he is wounded.
I did not take my bow with me because as I’ve already pointed out I NEVER expected to find him alive. I assumed I would be finding coyote food.
I was searching 20+ hours later and I came upon this deer. As you can see at the start of the video he has his head down and appears to be hiding. The exit wound I believed should have been visible behind his left shoulder. When I didn’t see an exit wound I assumed this was a different buck even though they had similar racks. Once I decided this wasn’t my deer I got my phone out, thinking he would take off running at any moment, and no one would believe I was this close to a live bedded deer. I was amazed that he continued to lay there as I approached him. Many things were going through my head, but ultimately I assumed he was a pet deer. You see videos all the time of deer walking up to people in the woods or running around playing with dogs. I was not out of my mind to think this was a pet deer. I could see no blood at all anywhere to indicate this was my wounded buck.
I could not believe he didn’t take off as I got closer and closer. When I got right up to him and saw no blood and he hadn’t taken off I was pretty sure he was indeed a pet deer. I’ve been hunting for 25+ years. Deer always run away from my experience, I never expected him to charge me. As I said, I’ve been hunting a long time, I just don’t have a fear of deer. When he stood up and lunged at me I immediately grabbed his horns and pushed the aside. After I put my phone down and grabbed him with two hands I could tell he was weak and I was finally able to see the entry and exit wound from my arrow. I did have my knife on me and was able to quickly finish him off. He was however able to give me one good bruise on my thigh, but that was it. I did survive, lol.
I did tag and harvest him, however the meat did prove to be tainted by the wound and adrenaline he released. It was no good.
And yes, I will always take my bow back out with me if this ever happens again.
I am crazy, but not totally as stupid as this video shows.
Thanks for watching.
