The Kanchanjunga Express is an Express train belonging to Eastern Railway zone that runs between Sealdah (Kolkata) and Agartala in India. It is currently operated with 13173/13174 train numbers on a four-days-a-week basis.
It is named after the Kangchenjunga peak of the Himalayan Mountains of Sikkim.
The 13173/Kanchanjunga Express has an average speed of 45 km/hr and covers 1554 km in 38h 25m. The 13174/Kanchanjunga Express has an average speed of 46 km/hr and covers 1554 km in 38h 10m.
13173/Kanchanjunga Express leaves Sealdah every Sunday and Thursday at 6:35 and reaches Agartala at 20:30 the next day.
13174/Kanchanjunga Express departs Agartala at 5:15 every Saturday and Tuesday and reaches Sealdah next day at 19:25.
Both trains are hauled by Sealdah-based WAP-7 or Howrah-based WAP-4 from Sealdah till New Cooch Behar Junction handing over to Siliguri / New Guwahati based WDP-4B / WDP-4D towards remaining of the journey till Agartala.
The train shares its rake with 13175/13176 Sealdah–Silchar Kanchenjunga Express.
The train reverses its direction at Lumding Junction.
The train has standard ICF rakes with a max speed of 110 kmph. The train consists of 19 coaches :

Agartala railway station is located 5.5 km (3.4 mi) from Agartala in Tripura, India. It is the second capital city (after Guwahati, Assam) in northeast India to be connected to the country's railway map, moreover Agartala is the first state capital of independent India to be connected with a rail network. Before 2015 the 413-kilometre (257 mi) route was connected to Lumding with a metre-gauge track, but after the gauge conversion to broad gauge in 2016, the track is connected directly to Guwahati and the rest of India.
From Agartala an under-construction track has been on the way for a connection towards the extreme Southern end point of the state at Sabroom, which has been completed on 3 October 2019. A total of 21 constructed stations and few under-construction stations in the state, with Churaibari being the last one through the Northern side and Sabroom (functioning & completed) in the Southern side. The total length of track from the capital towards the North region's last station is approx. 153 km (95 mi), after which the territory of Assam starts. There are a lot of transportation modes available to reach the city from the station.
Agartala was scheduled to get broad-gauge facility by March 2016. Works for conversion in BG from a small metre-gauge track from Lumding to Silchar in Assam was completed in March 2015 Freight services to Agartala had already resumed by then. It was 31 July 2016 when Suresh Prabhu the then Railway Minister of India inaugurated the Agartala–New Delhi ‘Tripura Sundari Express’, linking the broad gauge with the rest of India. On 28 October 2017 Rajdhani Express was inaugurated from Agartala to Anand Vihar Terminal.
Guwahati railway station (Station code: GHY) is located in the heart of the city of Guwahati, Assam. It is the first fully solar-operated railway station in India. It has been rated as A1-category station. Just behind the Guwahati Railway Station is the Assam State Transport Corporation Bus Terminal.
An ISO-certified railway station, Guwahati Railway Station has been ranked 21 in cleanliness among the A1-category railway stations in India.
To reduce the traffic on the Guwahati junction, there is another railway station in the city at Maligaon, the Kamakhya railway station. Almost all newly introduced trains run from the Kamakhya Jn. railway station only. There were plans to make a new railway station at Beltola (in the southern part of Guwahati) to introduce trains towards Shillong, Meghalaya. Plans have not been finalized and are still in progress.
Guwahati railway station became the first railway station to run entirely on solar-power. The solar panel installation project was commissioned in April 2017. In recent years the railway station got a 100 feet high Tri colour. It is the tallest tricolour among any railway stations in north east India.
The station has a diesel locomotive shed with room for 80 locomotives. The sheds accommodate WDM-3D, WDG-4D, WDG-4 and WDS class locomotives. The shed now also accommodates WDP-4D locomotives. The station has a coach maintenance complex.
The station is the divisional headquarters for the Northeast Frontier Railway.It became the first ever Railway station in the Indian Railways to get an ISO certification from the National Green Tribunal for "providing passenger amenities in a clean and green environment".
