Discover the hidden gem of Tyssedal Norway 4k

Tyssedal is a small and picturesque village located in Vestland County, Western Norway, along the scenic Sørfjorden, a branch of the Hardangerfjord. It lies just 6 km north of the town of Odda and has a population of around 600 people.

The village is best known for the Tyssedal Hydroelectric Power Station, built in the early 1900s and now part of the Norwegian Museum of Hydropower and Industry (Kraftmuseet). This historic power plant played a major role in Norway’s industrial development and is now a protected cultural heritage site.

Tyssedal is also home to a large ilmenite smelter, one of the few in Europe, producing high-quality titanium and iron products — a key part of the local economy for decades.

The village serves as the gateway to the legendary Trolltunga hike, one of Norway’s most iconic and breathtaking natural landmarks.

Visitors can explore the Hydropower Museum, enjoy hiking at Lilletopp or Via Ferrata Tyssedal, go fjord kayaking, or simply take in the stunning mountain views. Tyssedal is a hidden gem for nature lovers, adventurers, and history enthusiasts alike.
