The New York Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Henry Hadley, performs the overture from Richard Wagner's opera, TANNHAUSER. Filmed with the pioneering sound process called Vitaphone, this film together with several other "Vitaphones" premiered in New York City on the evening of August 6, 1926, in conjunction with the film, DON JUAN, starring John Barrymore. This was the first feature film to have a synchronized soundtrack consisting of a music score (performed by the NYPO) and sound effects.
I re-recorded the Tannhauser soundtrack to reduce noise and enhance tonal qualities. I also added sepia to the image.
