Today we are going walk the historic downtown Cochrane Alberta and provide information about this sweet little town. At the end of the video we will drive around to see some neighborhoods and see all the construction going on.
Tucked away in a picturesque river valley at the foot of the Rocky Mountains is the town of Cochrane, Alta. A short drive from Banff National Park to the west and City of Calgary to the east, it has become the fastest-growing community in Canada's fastest-growing province.
Cochrane was established in 1881 as the Cochrane Ranche, named for Matthew Henry Cochrane—a Senator and livestock breeder who founded one of Canada’s largest ranching operations. The settlement quickly grew around ranch operations and a river crossing on the Bow River. It became an incorporated village on June 17, 1903, complete with its first newspaper and volunteer fire department by 1909, and later incorporated as a town on February 15, 1971. Over the 20th century, Cochrane evolved from a ranching hub to a thriving commuter and tourism community within the Calgary metropolitan region
Situated 18 km west of Calgary along Highway 1A, Cochrane occupies 31.58 km² at the base of Big Hill in the Bow River valley, with an elevation of approximately 1,160 m. The town’s western-themed downtown and surrounding neighborhoods—such as Downtown, Heritage Hills, and Riverview—blend historic charm with modern subdivisions.
