Back-flushing is a must-do procedure to get rid of coffee residuals forming inside your Gaggia Classic's shower head (and works on any machine with pressure release pipe) and filter group every time you feel your coffee quality is not up to it, despite a good mill. I backflush every week, and also with Cafiza which is a form of solid soap, further enhancing the cleaning procedure. To backflush you'll need to buy a backflushing filter basket. Any will do, as long as it fits the portafilter filter's size, which in the case of the original Gaggia Classic's is 58mm, I got mine for as low as 10€ and I'm pretty happy about it. I follow a 5 seconds-5 shots schedule, with a Cafiza, followed by a 5-seconds-5 shots schedule without Cafiza in the basket. Also you should clean your filter basket as well, by submerging it in hot water mixed with Cafiza.
