This is the first lesson in an on going series of Chant classes designed not only for schola/choir members/singers but for everyone. These classes are given by Mr. Christopher Jasper, Schola Director of St. Joan of Arc (FSSP) in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho every Monday evening. They are designed to help build an "understanding" of the chant (musical, liturgical, historical significances, etc) not just the "how" to sing it.
Apologies for any mistakes or lack of presentational skills. This is my first experience giving any sort of lecture/class. The first few classes are being drawn heavily from Dom Saulnier's book "Gregorian Chant: A Guide to the History and Liturgy," translated by Dr. Mary Berry, for multiple reasons: The book highlights all the major, important points throughout history and Dr. Berry's translation lays it out in such a wonderful, concise manner... the book is near perfection for an easy Introduction to Chant history.
I am also blessed to be a friend and protégé of Dom Daniel Saulnier and a musical "grandchild," so to speak, of Dr. Mary Berry. Many thanks to Saulnier, Berry and my original instructor/director, Jeffrey Morse. Deo Gratias. Dominus vobisum.
