And the 3800 lbs is now within 100 lbs of the big brother M4
We’ll see if this weight is an issue behind the wheel later

It’s just not as handsome as it was last year
I’d still have it over the M3 and M4, but cmon BMW
The only objectively good-looking M cars are the 5 and the 8
but it’s better than the M3/4
Zandvoort blue is the best color though
grille is an interesting shape & frameless
Lower radiator is unprotected
The upgraded running lights are a must
squared off and geometric lower fascia
hood bulge
profile is very classic BMW
4 inches longer than e46 m3
19 in wheels up front, 20 in back
cast not forged
aggressive fender flares
m wing mirror
You can get a sunroof now!

This might be splitting hairs a little bit, but the steering does feel a little more vague than last year in terms of feedback

This is specifically about the adaptive cruise
And it’s that it doesn’t come standard…and you can’t get it at all on a manual equipped car
Which seems like it makes sense, but i think there are other manuals w/ adaptive cruise

3:38 - Price

The M2 now starts at about $62k

Which makes it more than a manual Supra
But it’s more car than a Supra
It’s more than a Nissan Z, but see the Supra explanation
It’s more than a Mustang Dark Horse, which is the only real competitor with rear seats
But still the M2 is a more disciplined sports car…at least we think - havent driven the dark horse
It’s 6 grand less than a base Cayman…yanno the one with the 2.0 4 banger?
Yeah yeah mid engine etc, but porsche money


4:17 - Engine

Unlike the debut of the first M2, this one comes with a S-motor right away
It’s the S58 - same as the M3/4 and X3/4M…though detuned
453 hp and 406 lbft
0-60 in ~3.9 seconds

19 mpg combined if you care about that sort of thing


5:14 - Transmission(s)

Having a Manual trans option is wonderful


5:50 - Dynamics & Balance

For this new M2 you get some stuff you’re familiar with like a punchy turbo straight 6
Power going through an LSD to JUST the rear wheels
And you have a PLETHORA of traction options to allow more or less slip - something we first saw a few years ago in McLarens
But you also get adaptive dampers that stiffen right up
Whether you want them to or not
You get a brilliant equal weight distribution and a really tight chassis so this thing is ready to respond

Ultimately it’s a brilliant dance partner - it’s more predictable than it was last year, but don’t think it wont let its hair down on a country road with you

You’ve got M-tri-color everywhere
On your steering wheel stitching
On your seat belts
On your shift boot
On your door card - so cool
On the seats themselves, carbon buckets, light up

This M2 is the latest to get the new iDrive 8 system
Massive cluster and center infotainment
Wireless car play
Lap Timer
Drift Analyzer

No 360 camera - no reverse assist
Yes your climate controls are in the screen now, but the menu is always on screen so it’s just a touch away

8:40 - Practicality

But anyway, the rear seats are some of the biggest in the segment
They’re not HUGE, but I do have legroom at 6’1 depending on where the driver sits
Headroom is cramped, but what did you expect
But it’s the trunk that’s brilliant
It’s a smaller opening, but big space
There’s a center passthrough AND you can fold the rear seats from the trunk - you cant even do that in some Mercedes SUVs
