The story of Liberia’s post-war rail operations starts with ArcelorMittal’s bold decision to be the first largest foreign direct investment as Liberia began its economic recovery journey after the civil war.
Prior to ArcelorMittal Liberia's intervention on the 280 km Yekepa to Buchanan railway, the rail line was significantly damaged. What followed was a comprehensive rail rehabilitation program to upgrade the rail and bring it back to full operation.
As we proceed with the Phase II Expansion Project, we are ensuring that the rail is ready for the increase in production from 5 to 15 million tons per annum.
Integral to our strategy is the development of Liberian talent to lead the expansion, and the augmentation of critical infrastructures for the project.
In this video, we hear from Liberian experts Dr. Garmondyu Crusoe, Acting Head of Rail and Port, Mulbah Gbozee, Rail Maintenance Manager and Edwin Tokpa, Rail Operations Manager who are at the forefront of our rail operations.
