Desi Sarson Ka Saag | Traditional Punjabi Winter Special
Desi Sarson Ka Saag is a classic winter dish loved across the subcontinent. Ingredients
Fresh sarson (mustard) leaves – 1 kg
Spinach (palak) – 250 g
Bathua (optional) – 250 g
Green chilies – 3–4
Garlic – 8–10 cloves
Ginger – 1 inch piece
wheat flour , Maize flour (makki ka atta) – 2 tbsp
Salt – to taste
Butter or desi ghee – 3–4 tbsp

Method
1. Wash sarson, palak, and bathua thoroughly and chop roughly.
2. Boil the greens with green chilies, ginger, and salt until soft.
3. Blend or mash the cooked greens to a coarse paste.
4. Add makki ka atta and cook on low flame, stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
5. In a separate pan, heat butter or ghee, add green onion leaves and green garlic , and ginger paste chopped and sauté until golden.
6. Pour this tempering over the saag and mix well.
7. Cook for a few more minutes and serve hot.
