The VWL Class (Volvo Wright Eclipse) is the oldest single-decker type in the Bus Eireann urban fleet. The first member of the class was delivered in 1997, while the first of the VWL 100 subclass was delivered in 2007. Two buses from that subclass are still in service today in Sligo. This video concentrates on the VWL 300 subclass, which was delivered in 2012.

There are 25 members of the VWL 300 subclass, and initially they operated in Cork, Limerick and Galway. Over time, as these cities moved to more of a double-decker operation, some of these buses migrated to operate some of the town services around the country. Cork and Limerick maintain a few examples within their fleets, but Galway completely lost their allocation. Dundalk and Drogheda received most of the transferred buses, and in recent times Navan has also gained an allocation, replacing the WM Class that used to operate there.

Some of the older VWLs have been sold on to other operators, and as an example of this, VWL 190 appears in this video and is now part of the Passenger Transport Solutions fleet.
