In this session I have explained Kurtosis and its types i.e. leptokurtic, mesokurtic & platykurtic. Skewness and its types i.e. right and left skewness.


Skewness, in statistics, is a measure of the asymmetry or lack of symmetry in a probability distribution. It indicates whether the data distribution is shifted to the left or right of the mean, deviating from a symmetrical, bell-shaped normal distribution.
The three types of skewness are:
Right skew-- (also called positive skew). A right-skewed distribution is longer on the right side of its peak than on its left.
Left skew --(also called negative skew). A left-skewed distribution is longer on the left side of its peak than on its right.
Zero skew.

Kurtosis is a statistical measure that defines how heavily the tails of a distribution differ from the tails of a normal distribution. In other words, kurtosis identifies whether the tails of a given distribution contain extreme values.
Types of Kurtosis
1. Mesokurtic
Data that follows a mesokurtic distribution shows an excess kurtosis of zero or close to zero. This means that if the data follows a normal distribution, it follows a mesokurtic distribution.
2. Leptokurtic
Leptokurtic indicates a positive excess kurtosis. The leptokurtic distribution shows heavy tails on either side, indicating large outliers.
3. Platykurtic
A platykurtic distribution shows a negative excess kurtosis. The kurtosis reveals a distribution with flat tails. The flat tails indicate the small outliers in a distribution.
