Nov. 26 on The Story: Portland Mayor Keith Wilson campaigned on an aggressive pledge to end homeless camping in Portland in his first year in office. To accomplish that goal, he set a target in January of opening 1,500 new overnight shelter beds by Dec. 1, 2025. Wilson said on Wednesday that he's hit the mark, with 1,100 beds open or soon to open, and another 400 "in reserve." But data shows some of the shelters were far from full last month, and complaints from neighbors persist. KGW spoke to Wilson about the status of the shelter bed push and where he thinks the city's efforts need to go from here.
