This monitor might just be faster than OLED...
In this video, I take an in-depth first look at NVIDIA G-Sync Pulsar using the ASUS ROG Strix Pulsar XG27AQNGV, a 27-inch 1440p 360Hz IPS LCD gaming monitor that, despite not being OLED or Mini LED, delivers some of the best motion clarity I have ever seen thanks to its backlight strobing combined with variable refresh rate, G-Sync, and HDR support. NVIDIA claims up to a 1000Hz motion-equivalent experience, and based on my testing with a 1000 FPS camera, I measured roughly 22ms of total system latency, putting this monitor in the same class as 500Hz to 700Hz displays for responsiveness. Where this monitor truly shines is motion clarity, as G-Sync Pulsar allows strobing to work even with fluctuating frame rates, something previously considered nearly impossible, and in my comparisons against OLED at 240Hz, 540Hz, and even 720Hz, Pulsar often matches or exceeds 540Hz OLED motion clarity while only running at 360Hz, making it far easier to drive with real-world GPUs.
While I did notice rare and very minor crosstalk in specific scenarios, overall motion performance is exceptional and arguably the best I’ve seen to date. That said, this is still an IPS LCD with a matte panel, weak contrast around 993:1, no local dimming, compromised HDR despite roughly 500 nits of brightness, and viewing angles that cannot compete with OLED, which absolutely dominates in contrast, HDR impact, image clarity, and overall visual quality. However, at around $650, the ASUS Pulsar XG27AQNGV offers near-500Hz OLED-level motion performance at a fraction of the total system cost, especially when paired with a more reasonable GPU like an RTX 5070 Ti instead of a flagship RTX 5090, making it arguably the best esports and competitive gaming monitor available in 2026 if pure speed and motion clarity are your top priorities.
