In this video, I pick and gut an Abus Plus disk detainer padlock with 9 disks in total, where the front and rear disks are butterfly disks.
The butterfly disks cause both front and rear tensioning to overset the disk in question, thus blocking the sidebar and preventing usable feedback when probing the other disks. However, this also means that the key itself must have a zero cut at least once in the middle section for the disk(s) in question to be used to rotate the core. In turn, these disks are the one that can be used for tensioning.
To face challenges of random tensioning, I had to create a picking tip and tensioner have the same shape and can be swapped during the picking process. They fit perfectly into the handle from RWB Custom Picks.
Unfortunately, this lock cannot be disassembled non-destructively.
The Abus Plus with butterfly disks is ranked red in the LPU belt ranking system.
