Steinhatchee 2025 after the hurricane, the fishing village is getting back on her feet

After hurricane Helene roared through Steinhatchee late in 2024, the town suffered quite a bit of damage. After clean up, the process of getting up and going again is underway. We made the trip over to Deadman's Bay for scalloping. While things aren't completely back to normal, the experiences provided here are as strong as ever!

Seeing a manatee with the drone while gathering scallops with the crew was a first, and the scallops are pelentiful this season.
The main marinas in the area, The Sea Hag, River Haven and Steinhatchee Marina are up and operational.

Some familiar spots are missing from the area- Maddie's, the grocery store in town has not reopened and the docks at the public boat ramp are not yet replaced. You may want to planning on dining out while in town as there are quite a few choices of eateries serving, or bring provisions with you. The boat ramp is open to launch and load boats, but just be aware that the docks are not replaced yet-be prepared when it's your turn by making sure the boat is loaded and ready. Most boats I saw being launched and loaded were done so with crews already aboard to help cut down on the time needed to get off the ramp.

Steinhatchee means summertime to me- and scallops. We catch'em and cook them here on the video. and also keep in mind the locals who depend on shucking the scallops to supplement their incomes. We always seek out those folks to help us with this task, and also give a little back to the community.
