Kenya Denies Facilitating Sudanese Government in Exile, Advocates for United Sudan
Antalya, Türkiye – Kenya has firmly denied allegations of supporting the formation of a parallel government for Sudan or endorsing the division of the country, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, H.E. Musalia Mudavadi, has clarified.
Speaking during an interview with TRT Africa at the Antalya Diplomatic Forum in Türkiye, Mudavadi emphasized Kenya’s commitment to a united Sudan while advocating for dialogue among all Sudanese stakeholders.
No Support for Divided Sudan
“At no time has Kenya facilitated the formation of a government in exile for the people of Sudan. And at no time has Kenya said that they will be supporting a divided Sudan,” Mudavadi stated.
He acknowledged that Nairobi had hosted various Sudanese factions for discussions but insisted that such engagements did not translate into backing separatist agendas.
Nairobi Meetings Misinterpreted
Addressing recent meetings in Nairobi involving Sudanese groups, Mudavadi clarified that while certain factions aligned with armed movements held discussions, no parallel government was established.
“If you go and look at the chatter, there's nowhere a parallel government is formed. There's nowhere that we are supporting the dismembering of Sudan,” he said.
He further argued that convening dialogue platforms should not be misconstrued as endorsing division, citing similar international meetings on Sudan held in Paris and London.
Kenya Backs Civilian-Led Peace Process
Mudavadi reiterated Kenya’s stance that a military solution is unsustainable and called for inclusive talks involving Sudan’s civilian and civil society components.
“We stand for one Sudan. We want the people to dialogue,” he said. “We are encouraging a process because the military solution will not work.”
He stressed the need for platforms where Sudanese civilians can engage in peacebuilding efforts, reinforcing Kenya’s role in fostering stability in the region.
Kenya has been actively involved in regional peace initiatives, including the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD)-led mediation efforts to resolve the Sudanese crisis. Mudavadi’s remarks reaffirm Nairobi’s position as a neutral facilitator in Sudan’s path to peace.
