🏰 History of Shaheedan Sahib
📍 Gurdwara Shaheedan Sahib is located in Amritsar, Punjab, near the Sri Harmandir Sahib complex. It stands as a sacred memorial dedicated to Baba Deep Singh Ji Shaheed and the countless Sikh martyrs (Shaheeds) who laid down their lives for the defense of the faith.
⚔️ The Great Battle (1757)
In 1757, Baba Deep Singh Ji, though nearly 75 years old, took a solemn vow to liberate Sri Harmandir Sahib from the desecration of Ahmad Shah Abdali’s forces. With a Khanda (double-edged sword) in his hand and the Sikh Sangat alongside, Baba Ji marched towards Amritsar.
During the fierce battle near Gurdwara Shaheedan Sahib, Baba Deep Singh Ji was gravely injured—his head was nearly severed. According to Sikh tradition, Baba Ji continued fighting, holding his head with one hand and wielding his sword with the other, until he reached the sacred parkarma of Harmandir Sahib where he finally attained Shaheedi (martyrdom).
🌸 Significance
Gurdwara Shaheedan Sahib marks this place of supreme sacrifice. It is a site of deep reverence where Sikhs gather to honor Baba Deep Singh Ji and other martyrs who defended the sanctity of Sikh shrines.
