This was one of my favorite days in Oman! I never thought we would get to spend the night watching wild sea turtles lay eggs and little hatching baby turtles waddle out to sea!

We got to Raz Al-Jinz early to make sure we got tickets because despite it being so remote, this is a very popular with people visiting Oman! We had another 2 hrs before our night viewing departure and we were hungry! The Ras Al-Jinz facility does offer dinner but it was pretty pricey so we started driving around the area and found literally a hole in the wall restaurant in a small neighborhood. There were no tables and chairs set up, no menu as apparently only locals eat here, and they eat on the ground. The owner pulled out a table for us to sit in the parking lot to dine, and gave us a couple of things he could cook up. But it was delicious!! We included a map of the location in case anyone else is interested!

It was such a trippy experience walking out in pitch darkness with no flashlights for about 30 minutes before arriving near the coast where the turtles make their nest. We had to be careful not to twist our ankles as there were so many holes on the beach! We learned the nesting turtles spend hours digging and covering burrows for their eggs, and they even make decoy holes to throw off predators!

Finally at the end of the night, we found an itty bitty baby turtle who was turned around so our guide used a flashlight to guide it safely out to sea!

The whole experience was amazing, so many stars in the sky and there’s also bioluminescence in ocean!
