The weather was fabulous last Sunday, so I took Molly and Shelly for an outing to Fenglin in Hualien. There is a lesser-known historical ruins right beside the road called Hayashida Jinja, which was built in 1915 during Japanese rule. In 2014, the local government restored the torii (gate of a jinja), sandō (pavement leading to the shrine) and tōrō (stone lanterns) of the complex while leaving the remains of the tamagaki (fence surrounding the honden) and honden (main hall) as they are. It is free to enter and open 24/7. After that, we went for a walk in a forest nearby. There are wide paved roads and smaller paths perfect for walking or biking, since almost no cars come this way.
