Did you know that Key West is actually a micronation of the United States known as the Conch Republic? That’s right, they seceded in 1982 due to their frustration with the federal government ruining their everyday lives with a blockade. Today, we celebrate the day that the Conch Republic “seceded where others failed”, with a comical cuban bread, bloody battle reenactment in Key West.
