How China Cuts Impossible Tunnels Straight Through Mountains

China is carving some of the longest mountain tunnels on Earth — more than 20 km through solid rock — so that high-speed trains can simply ignore the mountains in their way.
In this video, we break down how these massive tunnels are actually built: from the first geological surveys and 3D models, to giant tunnel boring machines (TBMs), controlled drilling and blasting, the NATM method, and the safety systems that keep these tunnels running 24/7 for decades.
You’ll learn:
– Why mountain roads are a problem for 300 km/h trains
– How engineers “read” the geological structure inside a mountain
– How TBMs are assembled and launched deep underground
– What happens when the rock is too weak, and blasting or NATM is used instead
– How ventilation, escape tunnels, sensors and drainage protect people inside long tunnels
