A Breathtaking Walk in a Cotswold Village with Dramatic Views

So, today we are out and about walking in the small Cotswold village of Sheepscombe which is located approximately 10 km (6.5 miles) south-east of the city of Gloucester, 10 km (6 miles) north-east of Stroud and just 2 km (1.5 miles) east of Painswick. The village is situated in a narrow valley.

The village is thought to date back to around 1260 with its original name being Sebbescumbe. Like many Cotswold villages and towns, Sheepscombe was involved in the cloth making trade in the 17th century. Its very last mill closed in 1839.

The village church is St John the Baptist which was constructed and opened in 1820. It was later expanded in 1872. It is listed as being a Grade II building.

The village local is The Butchers Arms, which is a Free House. The pub has a very popular outdoor sign, which is a chap sat down, sipping a pint but also with a pig tied to his leg. It is said to be one of the most photographed pub signs in the country. It is also worth noting that the pub warmly welcomes walkers & ramblers alike (as well as your four legged friend), in fact the pub staff have even come up with six comprehensive circular walks, a copy of the leaflet containing the walks can be obtained at the bar.
