John the Baptist was Elijah. Born from a mother who was barren and a father who became dumb; cousin and forerunner to Jesus, John was the prophesied Elijah. Only John could baptize the Father, in flesh, and then declare Him to be the Lamb of God. Jesus, the creator of all, confirms that John the Baptist was indeed the Elijah the prophet who had to precede Him. If Jesus said that John was Elijah, what else can anyone say?
John was not Elijah reincarnate. The mythical belief of reincarnation begins with the death of an individual then the transmigration of the spirit. In Elijah's case, he did not die!
