The past reminds us of itself in many forms and different ways. We can be reminded of days long gone by with things as simple as photographs, sounds, or.... locomotives.
A seemly average railroading day on the Seattle subdivision became a great evening to remember, with not one, but two former ATSF locomotives (BNSF 181 and BNSF 4713) being the stars of the show for the day.
Not only is it incredibly rare to see anything painted for the Santa Fe on the business end of a freight train in the current decade, but to be able to capture two trains meeting with ATSF motors in the lead is something I doubt will happen again in the northwest, or really anywhere for that matter. This was a one-in-a-million chance, and I managed to get the shot.
Plenty of other items of note that are popular among railfans include foreign motive power from CN and CSX, SD75 series locomotives, and fallen flag freight cars from railroads such as Burlington Northern and Wisconsin Central.
