Prison Guard "Granny" Gives Advice to Teen Inmate | Moving to Adult Prison

In this video, teenager Aurelious had just turned 18 which meant one thing in the adult prison where he was serving time for robbery: he was now old enough to be transferred from his juvenile cellblock which only houses teens under 18, and be transferred to the massive adult prison population. Aurelious' juvenile cell block had a maximum capacity of 53 boys. Here, the teens must be sight and sound separated from adult prisoners. On this day, however, Aurelious was being transferred out of the prison Youth cell block and being sent to a prison several hours away. Once there, he would join 3,000 adult prisoners as he served his final two years behind bars. In this video, we see Aurelious pack his things and get a few last words of comfort from one of the most beloved Correctional Officers on the cell block -- "Granny."

As he makes his way across the massive prison yard, we see the tense process of going through the transfer process, which involves changing into a new prison jumpsuit and being leg and waist shackled before being escorted to a transport van for the long trip ahead.

Note: Aurelious served his time and was released from prison. He has not been back in the system since.
