Long ago, there was a Hmong boy who loved to catch wild chickens. His family had an old grandmother who had recently passed away and was being made into a spirit guardian. They instructed the boy to go deep into the mountain forest to cut firewood to prepare food for the rituals honoring the dead.
As the boy walked into the dense forest, he suddenly heard chickens calling nearby. He followed the sound and caught one wild chicken. But as he was about to cut firewood nearby, he heard the sound of chickens hopping close by. When he looked around, he saw his chicken’s trap rope tied tightly to a wild chicken — and suddenly, a terrifying forest spirit woman appeared, coming out of the shadows to snatch the chicken.
The boy was frozen with fear, the ghostly figure reaching out in the dark woods.
