The late was first introduced to the church by his beloved parents, who faithfully nurtured him in the Anglican ways. He grew up as an acolyte at ACK St. James Church, Kiangurwe where he served diligently in altar and fellowship ministries. His devotion to the Anglican teachings and faithful service earned him the title “Kanyua ka Bishop” among local clergy.
After marrying Jacinta, the late was baptized and received into the Catholic Church. Together with his wife, they worshipped and participated at St. Joseph the Worker, Roysambu Parish. He was also enrolled into the Catholic Men Association (C.M.A).The late was a man who cherished virtues such as Love, Faith, Justice and Peace. Sermons of Saint Francis of Assisi greatly influenced him, and shaped his Christian formation. Later after retiring on 10th September 2014, he was enrolled into the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish at Ol'kalou. Here, he faithfully served God with deep commitment and humility.During his time at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Ruai, where he became a catechist and evangelist, Bro. Gicheri became well known for his undying passion for spreading the gospel through home visitations, praying for families, and all forms of evangelization.His commitment in the services of the Catholic Church was demonstrated in the church actively uplifting Christian values through various acts of service.
Career Background
After completing his secondary education, the late began his career at Muramati Savings and Credit Society. He later worked with Githunguri Dairy Limited, Embu. The late then secured employment at Larsen & Toubro Company in Mombasa. A short stint there opened doors for an opportunity to work with Nigeria Airways. Through hard work and determination, he also joined ICDC Investment Agency (1980). This became his home of service for the rest of his life. He eventually rose to serve as the Housing Development Coordinator until his retirement in 2014.His service was marked by integrity, diligence and commitment. He worked alongside his colleagues with utmost dedication until his retirement.
Dedication to the Community
The late was a humble person, a peace-maker, a man who enjoyed service, and expressed it to everyone he interacted with. His generosity was deeply felt by the community. He lived a life of purpose—quietly but powerfully. His generosity, his calm spirit, and his unwavering commitment to others have left an imprint that time cannot erase. We remember him not only for what he did, but for who he was: a loving soul, a true gentleman, and a blessing to us all. May his memory continue to comfort and inspire us.
Sickness
The late enjoyed a life of strength, warmth, and good health until 17th July 2025, when he unexpectedly began experiencing intense hiccups. What seemed minor at first led to his admission at Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi, where he was diagnosed of High-Grade B-Cell Lymphoma. Even in the face of such news, he showed remarkable courage and resilience. He underwent chemotherapy with great strength, hope in his heart, and faith in God’s plan.
On 13th November 2025, his breathing became troubled, and he was taken to Nairobi West Hospital, where he was diagnosed with hemolytic sepsis. Those days were heartbreaking, filled with prayers, love, and unwavering support of his family. Despite the dedicated efforts of the medical team and the deep longing of his loved ones to see him recover, his condition worsened on 16th November as he developed multi-organ dysfunction. On the morning of 18th November 2025, at 8:40 a.m., surrounded by close family and friends who cared for him deeply, he peacefully returned to his Creator. He left for the next life, at the age of 59. He is survived by his devoted wife and their two precious children. The late Ibrahim Gicheri Mugo was truly God-given; a blessing to his family, his community, and all who knew him. And now, in God’s perfect time, he has been called home. May his beautiful soul rest in eternal peace. Amen. He served as treasurer of the Treasurer of St. Stephen’s Outstation, Kiangurwe. He later became the Lay-Leader of the congregation. While living in Ruai Phase III, he was elected the Chairman of the Neighbourhood Committee that helped in maintaining peace, cleanliness and proper development control of the estate. He was later elected Chairman of Ruai Catholic Men Association (C.M.A), and also served as Chair of St. Joseph Small Christian Community. He served diligently in BFA, as Chair of the School & Mapping Committee, as well as being involved in everything relating to land matters.During his retirement years in Ol’kalou, he continued playing an active role in serving the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and was a member of the Ol’kalou C.P.F Small Christian Community. His passion for community development extended to different social initiatives. He leaves behind a legacy of service, humility, kindness and strong Christian values.
