Pruning fruit trees can make a real difference to increase your fruit crop - and that applies to Fig trees too.
In our wet area of the UK (South Wales) Fig trees can put on too much leaf and stem growth and not so much of the fruiting growth ... however we have enjoyed some amazing crops of really juicy figs from our 'Brown Turkey' variety of Fig!
But our tree has got too big, and we now cut back about 25% of the branches each year, so that we encourage new fruiting shoots each year but still have around 75% of older branches which are more likely to set fruit.(Freshly pruned branches may not produce fruit the summer after they are pruned)
We also see some basic pruning of our big Tracycarpus hardy Palm tree. removing old/ yellow leaves in early spring.
