HISTÓRIA
Com 129 anos de uso, o esperanto, a língua internacional neutra, tem uma produção cultural com mais de 35 mil títulos de literatura original e tradução, bem como uma produção musical bastante diversa. A ideia-base do esperanto foi lançada pelo jovem médico polonês Luís Lázaro Zamenhof, em 1887, aos 28 anos de idade. Zamenhof viveu em Bialistoque e em Varsóvia, na Polônia, na época parte do Império Russo. Nestes locais, moravam muitos povos e falava-se muitas línguas, o que dificultava a integração das pessoas e gerava conflitos sociais. A intenção de Zamenhof era a de apresentar uma língua que pudesse servir de instrumento neutro de comunicação e que fosse de fácil aprendizagem para todos, incluindo todos os níveis sociais, evitando conflitos culturais e promovendo a integração das pessoas, não só dos moradores locais, mas consequentemente de toda a população mundial. O número de falantes cresceu rapidamente, mas o esperanto enfrentou sérias perseguições devido as 2 guerras mundiais, quando governos como o comandado por Hitler e Stalin perseguiram e mataram esperantistas. A família Zamenhof foi quase que completamente dizimada, restando apenas um sobrevivente. Porém, após a 2ª guerra mundial, o esperanto reergueu-se. Em 1954, a Unesco passou a reconhecer formalmente o valor do Esperanto e, em 1985, reforçou a recomendação aos países membros que difundissem e ensinasem o esperanto. Hoje, é ensinado em inúmeras universidades e escolas pelo mundo e cresceu ainda mais com o avanço da internet. Atualmente, é falado por cerca de 2 milhões de pessoas, distribuídas em mais de 115 países, atuando como um elemento de união e intercâmbio cultural da humanidade.

HISTORY
With 129 years of use, Esperanto, the neutral international language, has a body of literature with well over 35 thousand original titles and translations, as well as a diverse collection of original music. Esperanto was launched by a young 28 year old Polish doctor Ludwik Lejzer Zamenhof in 1887. Zamenhof had lived in both Białystok and in Warsaw, Poland, then part of the Russian Empire. In these places, many people lived and spoke many different languages, which hindered the integration of people and generated constant conflict. The intention of Zamenhof was to present a language that could serve as a neutral communication tool, easy to learn for everyone, including people of all socioeconomic levels, avoiding cultural conflicts and promoting the integration of people, not only of local residents, but of the whole world. The number of speakers grew rapidly, but Esperanto faced serious persecution during the two world wars, such as when governments like those commanded by Hitler and Stalin persecuted and killed Esperanto speakers. The Zamenhof family was almost completely wiped out, leaving only one survivor. However, after the 2nd World War, the Esperanto community began to recover. In 1954, UNESCO formally recognized the value of Esperanto and in 1985 reinforced the recommendation to member countries to spread and teach Esperanto. Today, it is taught in many universities and schools around the world and has grown even more with the advancement of internet. Currently, it is spoken by around 2 million people, distributed in over 115 countries, serving to promote cultural exchange and unify mankind.
