We’ve got something different in store today — fitness meets horsepower. Here’s how the episode rolls:
1️⃣ Meet Dean — CrossFit 168 Owner & Car Enthusiast
Dean is the founder of CrossFit 168, now with three locations (City, Alexandria, Marrickville) and growing. He started out coaching fitness classes in parks while working in finance, and the numbers (and passion) snowballed from there.
He’s also deep into the car world — from SSS to S15s, to his latest ride, the 2018 R35 Nismo Track Edition. He opens up about a run-in at the lights that left the GTR badly damaged and sparks flew — literally.
“Cars can be fixed. Pedestrians often can’t.”
2️⃣ Cars & Barbells — Why We’re Doing This
You might ask — why a gym owner on a car podcast? Because we’re launching something special in partnership with Crossfit 168: Cars & Barbells.
It’s a mash-up of cars, coffee, and fitness. Think muscle meets motor, iron meets ignition.
We’ve been teasing this event for a few episodes — today we spill a bit more.Stay tuned on Instagram and YouTube for event details.
3️⃣ GTR vs Porsche — The Big Decision
The talk turns serious when we dive into Dean’s future car. He’s weighing whether to write off the damaged GTR or pivot to something new — and Porsche is firmly in the conversation.
Should he go for a 991.2 GT3 or a 992 GT3?
What about GT3 RS or Cayman alternatives?
Does Ferrari even make sense (spoiler: maybe not — too flashy, too polarizing)?
And in the mid‑tier range: RS3, BMW M2 (manual or auto), Supra — what’s worth it?
It’s a deep, honest chat about value, reliability, track capability, daily usability, and even identity.
“You can no longer say my 34 can beat your Porsche… GTRs are not half the price anymore.”
4️⃣ Balancing Track & Daily Driving
We explore where to draw the line between a car that’s fun on track and one you can live with on the road.
McLarens and Ferraris look great — but servicing costs can run wild.
Porsches seem to offer a more rational balance: simpler maintenance, track readiness, and daily usability.
The M2 gets praise for delivering power smoothly, maintaining control, and being enjoyable — without feeling like you need a crash helmet to drive it.
“You can’t beat it — I was out there with McLarens and Ferraris, but my Porsche was doing fine.”
