Sharpless asymmetric epoxidation is a very important name reaction. In this reaction an allylic alcohol is epoxidized by ter-butylhydroperoxide in the presence of titaniumtetraisopropoxide as a catalyst and (+) or (-)-dialkyltartrate as a chiral ligand to produce enantioselectively one enantiomer of epoxide. In this video, tricks to find structure of correct enantiomeric epoxide during sharpless asymmetric epoxidation, chemoselectivity, diastereoselectivity and chiral resolution of allylic alcohols have beevn discussed with appropriate examples in detail.
