Pagapir portrays the Maranao as "walking" in a royal manner. The Maranao are a people who live primarily in the region around Lake Lanao. This exquisite dance is performed by ladies of the royal court in advance of an important occasion.
The Maranao people, who predominately live in the region near Lake Lanao, are shown by Pagapir as having a royal way of "walking" about. The ladies deftly control the Aper (apir) or fan while highlighting their modest steps, or "kini-kini," which represents their politeness and illustrious family lineage.
