Join me on this walking tour outside AIIMS and Safdarjung Hospital in Ansari Nagar, New Delhi — one of the busiest hospital zones in India.
I visited the entire stretch outside both hospitals. In the AIIMS underpass, there are several chemist shops and many patient attendants can be seen resting. 
At night, the walkway becomes very congested and there is very little space to move around.
On the Safdarjung Hospital side, almost half of the road is occupied by eatery stalls, adding to the crowd, rush and continuous movement of ambulances and visitors.
This video captures the real street atmosphere, night hustle, vendors, footpaths and the intense activity around these major hospitals of Delhi.

✅ Solutions / Remedies for the Congestion:
1. Regulated Hawker & Vendor Zones
Create designated vending zones away from the hospital gates.
Allocate fixed spaces so vendors don’t spill onto the road or footpath.
This immediately frees walking space for patients and attendants.

2. Widened & Clear Pedestrian Walkways
Extend footpaths near AIIMS underpass and Safdarjung side.
Install railings to prevent shop encroachment.
Mark a separate walkway for attendants resting.

3. Multi-Storey Chemist & Convenience Blocks
Convert underpass side shops into a small multi-level block (2–3 floors):
Pharmacy
Food outlets
Rest spaces
This removes random shops from footpaths.

4. Separate Resting Area for Patient Attendants
Build a low-cost “Attendant Rest Centre” nearby with:
Seating
Toilets
Drinking water
Charging points
This will reduce people sitting and sleeping along the road & underpass.

5. Strict Anti-Encroachment Drive
Regular monitoring so footpaths don’t get reoccupied.
Issue temporary day passes to allow only approved vendors.

6. Dedicated Emergency Lane
Mark an ambience-free lane to prevent traffic jams near AIIMS trauma & Safdarjung emergency entry.
