Subaru and Toyota both paid attention to the second rows. Both offer lots of space and amenities including two USB ports, a household style power outlet, a third zone of climate control, and heated seats. The Grand Highlander steps it up with ventilated seats while the Ascent has the edge for versatility with 19 cup holders. The third rows are relatively roomy with the Grand Highlander in the lead for space, and they both offer nice amenities like 4 and 5 cup holders, USB ports, and a storage cubby in the Ascent’s case. There is a good amount of space in the cargo area, with the Grand Highlander offering more space in every dimension, and both the second and third rows are manually folding. Toyota is offering customers three powertrains in the Grand highlander including a gas engine and two hybrid engines. The standard 2.4L 4 makes 265 horsepower while the 2.4L Subaru BOXER 4 in the Ascent makes 260 horsepower. The Grand Highlander is slightly faster, and the fuel economy is about the same.
