Steps to Implement Energy conservation and Energy Efficiency Measures in MSME segment, Pleased to share Ashok Sethuraman's Energy Measure To Save youtube link here. Kindly go thro the same and give your valuable feedback.
The titled image shows "KWH units per day Divided by the number of Run hours of motor working per day" will give the Average Units per hour consumed by that motor / day. This units per hour can be compared to motor's Rated KW and its nameplate efficiency.
This gives indication of your motor loading status, either healthy efficiency at say 60 to 80 % loading or overloaded status of 100 % laoding and above, or underloaded status of say below 40 % loading, which leads to inefficient motor loading and operation. So you can come to the conclusion of the motor loading whether is suitable & healthily to process. Or this needs replacement with the sized motor to match to the given average loading.
This day reading can be taken for shift or week or month depending on your industry's rouine monitoring procedures. This is run hour is non-resettable type, so the average motor loading per hour for month or years also can be assessed by this. Because loading is one of main contributing factors towards motor energy efficiency.
BEE Bureau of Energy Efficiency always gives thrust to monitor Energy first especially the input KWH for any motor above 5 hp in 2 shift industry. Here I have suggested not only to measure KWH input, but also the running hours using Runhour meter and deliverable parameters in the utility output so as to know about the efficiency of utility and deliverable of utilty to the production process.
That is why I have suggested in the last slide about the budgetory pricing of energy monitoring meters as available in e-commerce platforms as on Dec 2025. YOu can procure the relevant meters for your industry and monitor to target your energy reduction.
Appreciable energy savings of around 10 % is observed in your motors below 10 HP by conservation and replacement, in your belt operated machines and utilities by around 10 %, by retrofitting VFD in your production and utility machines, like your pumps, blowers, compressors etc.
There is plenty of scope there in energy saving in the MSME and even in big industries, if you start monitoring your energy and the relative energy consumption among your batch of machines will prompt you the deviations happening there and will ask you to get the same corrected.
The overall conservative estimate of energy savings is 10 % minimum and it is normally observed around 20 % energy saving in the MSME segment, this depends on the type and nature of process in the segment.
