Just ahead of my car, a family on a two-wheeler — a man, his wife, and their infant, barely three months old — were cruising steadily at around 20-25 km/h. In an instant, a Yulu rider swerved right without checking or allowing any reaction time. The bike rider, in a desperate attempt to avoid a collision, braked suddenly — causing the bike to skid.

In what could have turned into a tragic accident, the mother managed to keep her balance and stood firmly, holding the baby safely in her arms. The father, clearly shaken but relieved, got up and angrily confronted the Yulu driver, pointing at the infant — a silent but powerful reminder of what could have happened.


This incident is a stark reminder of how fragile road safety can be — especially when it involves inexperienced riders, reckless turns, and road conditions that don’t forgive even a small mistake.

Two key issues stand out:
1. Lack of awareness and experience among new-age riders (like those using shared mobility platforms such as Yulu) — often not trained for real-road reflexes.
2. Poor road maintenance and mud accumulation, which can make even low-speed braking dangerously slippery for two-wheelers.
