As lithium demand for use in batteries surges, we as geoscientists must innovate, and increase our efforts to supply this critical metal to the market.
Lithium is a challenging metal to explore for as economic concentrations occur within several types of mineral deposits and are dissolved within brines in a range of geological settings. Despite the diversity of environments in which lithium deposits occur, these can all be linked and understood using a holistic understanding of the Lithium mineral system. In this way, it is possible to explore effectively, contextualise new and unusual Lithium deposits, and utilise this framework to develop novel exploration techniques.
Edward Bunker from CGG provided an overview of the range of lithium deposit types and provided a few examples of how we can effectively explore for Lithium.
